Sanctuary Projects
The following is a description of the major elements of the sanctuary renovation, along with their projected costs. This portion of the project is scheduled to begin in July, 2024 and be complete by May, 2025
Porch Entrance – The concrete stairs, ramp and porch of the sanctuary entrance are in significant need of repair. We will refurbish the concrete and replace the ramp railings to maintain safe use and an attractive look. Cost: $45,000
Doors – Our entrance doors have served their useful life. We will replace them with modern glass doors which match the other entrance doors of our facility. The new doors, as well as those at our ‘carport entrance’ will be equipped with mobility-assist function. We will also replace the doors between the narthex and sanctuary to provide a modern look and provide the opportunity for increased security. Cost: $58,000
Carpet – The carpet is desperately in need of replacement. We will do so with modern, commercial carpet. Cost: $35,000
Windows – Our sanctuary windows are old, inefficient, and in need of replacement. We will replace them with modern windows which match those we just installed in the children’s department, providing a consistent appearance. Cost: $50,000
Seating – Our pews have exceeded their lifespan and can no longer be repaired. We will replace them with a combination of modern, padded pews and chairs on the main level to preserve the architecture of the room and provide flexibility in making space for people in wheelchairs. The balcony pews will be replaced with modern chairs. Cost: $110,000
Climate Systems – The boiler that heats the sanctuary is beyond its expected service life, and we need better cooling & humidity control, especially in the platform area. We will replace the boiler and the old heating ducts with modern, efficient alternatives. We will also install additional cooling and humidity control to the platform area. Cost: $75,000
Lighting – The chandeliers in the sanctuary and fixtures in the narthex are dated and inefficient. Additionally, our platform lighting needs updating. We will replace the chandeliers & fixtures with modern, recessed lighting. We will also upgrade our platform lighting to provide better visibility. Cost: $10,000
Electric Systems – Our electrical systems are not sufficient for the modern world. We will upgrade our electrical systems to modern standards, including the platform, tech area, and sanctuary. Cost: $30,000
Paint & Ceiling Repair – There are parts of the ceiling which need to be repaired. Additionally, it has been more than a decade since our sanctuary was painted. It’s time for a fresh coat. Cost: $70,000
Window Treatments – Renovating the sanctuary without updating the window treatments would look strange. We will replace the current curtains with motorized, black-out shades. Cost: $20,000
Platform – For years, our platform has been made up of temporary sections with limited access and electric/sound outlets. We will replace the entire platform with a modern design, steps with handrails, a mobility ramp, and the electric/sound outlets needed in a modern worship space. We will also replace the stained fabric covering the organ speakers and renovate the front wall of the sanctuary to create a minimalist look while honoring the architecture of the building.
